STILL WINES FROM Champagne.
This year the Maison Charles Heidsieck is renewing with tradition and producing a very small number of Coteaux Champenois.
Cyril Brun, Cellar Master, shares his very favourite whites and reds with this extremely limited selection.
Producing Coteaux wines means giving life to some of his "coups de coeur".
To taste them is to dive into the fascinating world of the art of blending in Champagne.
COTEAU CHAMPENOIS BLANC AŸ
A DROP OF WHITE IN AN OCEAN OF REDS
Yes, the plot known as “La Côte Verneuil” is indeed located in Aÿ. With a slope of 50%, it is one of the steepest in our vineyard. Another fun fact: in contrast to the rest of the Aÿ Grand Cru terroir, the plot is entirely planted in Chardonnay. This alone was enough to raise Cyril Brun’s curiosity and challenge him to making a “Grand Blanc” from a terroir known to be planted in “Grand Noir”.
Wines from 2018, aged one year in old oak barrels
The robe is a brilliant golden yellow.
The nose is powerful with initial notes of toasted hazelnut and coconut, followed by candied citrus, frangipane and honey.
The fleshy palate offers flavours of quince, ripe apricot and custard cream, leading to white chocolate and candied fruits.
To be enjoyed immediately and until 2025.
COTEAU CHAMPENOIS rouge ambonnay
a red in all its glory
The “Les champsots” plot lies in the heart of the Ambonnay terroir, a Grand Cru located on the southern side of the Montagne de Reims.
The vineyard corresponds naturally to the production of red wines and Cyril therefore wanted to exploit its full potential.
100% Pinot Noir
Wines from 2019, aged one year in old oak barrels.
the wine :
The robe is a brilliant ruby red.
The powerful initial nose offers notes of black fruits (black currants, blackberries, black cherries), giving way to floral and spiced aromas (violets, ginger, liquorice, pepper, cinnamon). When swirled in the glass, smoky, even peaty, aromas appear.
The generous palate is tannic and supple with a silky finish of salted caramel.
To be enjoyed immediately and until 2030.
